Read it in the Sunday Papers

BBC4

In an unusual bit of radio coverage, Gonzales was recently (Sunday, Dec 2, 2012) discussing interesting newspaper stories as a guest on the BBC Radio 4 show « Broadcasting House« , hosted by Paddy O’Connell. Apparently, guests are invited to briefly comment on a newspaper article from the morning’s papers that they found interesting.

The podcast can be streamed or downloaded here until Jan 2, 2013. The Sunday paper review starts just after the news at the 30 minute mark.

Here’s what Gonzales found:

  • SMS is on the decline after celebrating its 20-year anniversary. Gonzales found it interesting that Twitter and FaceBook communication is taking over, and that having a phone conversation is a distant memory.
  • Gonzales chuckled at the fact that a British Band broke up after one album, citing pressure from overexposure. The kicker: the breakup was released on YouTube – talk about overexposure!
  • Finally, Gonzales mentions some news regarding Carla Bruni. Apparently, Ms. Bruni declared the feminist movement dead and stated that she is not a feminist. The interesting part of the article: it was a social media backlash against her stance that eventually caused her to recant. Gonzales found it interesting that social media now has the power to make people recant – something that’s never happened before.

At the end of the show, Gonzales jumped to a nearby piano and took the show out with a very playful version of Othello, which would have been even better had someone not been talking over it as the show closed!
